Here's a little something some of us in the band have been working on with some other Sonoma musician friends during quarantine. It started as a way to collaborate musically during the quarantine. "Let's just record some raw footage on iPhones and mix it together, 'Playing for Change' style. Then, with the diagnosis and subsequent passing of John Prine from Covid-19, it took on more focus and clarity as a tribute to him. Somewhat serendipitously, it took on a perhaps deeper meaning in the face of the recent social unrest w/ BLM. While Rosa Parks wasn't the subject of this particular song, she is an Angel from Montgomery in her own right. That, and "Sugaree" (written by Robert Hunter and composed by Jerry Garcia) was based on an Elizabeth Cotton song about the exploitation of black people... I'd love to take credit for knowing this all in advance, but the truth is that it was a happy - or at least timely - accident. Hope you enjoy! Thank you VERY much to Ben Staub for his video editing as well as the very talented bunch of Sonoma musicians: Andros Howes Bill Nelson Charlie Theobald Codi Binkley Chris Hanlin Ellen Toscano Jenni Purcell and Rachel Sierra. Love you all!
